In a shocking incident in Ernakulam district, authorities have uncovered a partially dismembered body of an unidentified woman in a vacant house. Police officials reported this discovery on Saturday.
The remains were located near Onnukal in Neriyamangalam, and there are suspicions that the woman may have been murdered.
Investigators believe the body could belong to a 61-year-old woman from Vengoor, who had been reported missing several days prior. According to officials, the property belongs to a pastor residing in Kuruppampady, Ernakulam.
On Wednesday, the pastor noticed that the kitchen exit door had been forcibly opened, indicating a possible break-in.
He promptly alerted the police, leading to the filing of a case at the Onnukal police station. Sources revealed that when the homeowner returned on Friday, he detected a foul odor emanating from the garbage pit, prompting him to contact law enforcement.
A police team quickly arrived at the scene and recovered the dismembered body. Authorities also found bloodstains inside the house and near the pit.
A senior officer stated, 'We have registered a murder case and initiated an investigation. The body is in a disfigured state, and identification will be confirmed after further examination. We suspect it is the body of the woman reported missing from Vengoor.'
Following the investigation, the remains were transported to the Ernakulam Government Medical College in Kalamassery, where an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday to determine the cause of death.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that a woman residing in a rented house in Neriyamangalam has been taken into custody in connection with the case. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ascertain her involvement.
